Given the influence the ancient Romans have had on spa activities and resorts worldwide it is unsurprising that Italy celebrates the very best of spa traditions. Furthermore, Italy is well placed to enjoy the benefits of a recent upsurge in the demand for wellbeing centers and many of its traditional and modern spas have seen full renovation and refurbishment to provide a prime European centre for spa resort holidays.
Italy is of course a major tourist destination out with the spa resorts, with incredible architecture, art, and culture, the wine trails, and wonderful scenery, and the spa resorts are well placed to enjoy the wider attractions in addition to a comprehensive selection of spa packages and facilities. Enjoy the high fashion of Milan, the beauty of Naples, the rich cultural history of Rome, or the artistic heritage of Florence as part of an Italy Spa adventure. The contemporary culture of wellbeing involves a holistic approach for enhancement of the body and mind and the attractions of Italy blend perfectly with the spa facilities to do just that.
As a country in which city break holidays are important, Italy is easy to get to and many visitors are choosing spa weekends as an addition or alternative to Italy’s tourist trails. While a frantic tour of galleries may enliven the senses, nothing invigorates or relaxes like a spa. In addition to the traditional and contemporary spa resorts in the country, many luxury hotels also offer excellent spa facilities.
Choice with no compromise in quality is the key feature of Italian spas. Whether a natural hot spring from a clay hole in the middle of a field to the sumptuous luxury surrounds of a top hotel, the ultimate in authentic spa services is available.

Near Rome, in the Lazio region, the natural hot springs near Viterbo and Tivoli are popular, as are those at the spa town of Fiuggi. The hot springs at Viterbo are certainly the oldest, with the Terme die papi being used by the Etruscans and then ancient Romans for curative purposes. During mediaeval times the popes enjoyed the benefits of the hot springs at Viterbo, giving them their current name. In the countryside around Viterbo are open air pools, where locals enjoy the hot waters by moonlight.
In the Campania region, close to Naples, lies one of the most popular hot springs in Italy.
